Well, I used the Epic with the clear cutting mat it came with and a clear XL Big Shot cutting mat. They are very similar in height. I was cutting a Bigz XL Sizzix die. It was a little hard to get it started, but once I did it worked fine. I'm not too thrilled with the handle. A little flimsy for such a big die. I still like my Big Shot more.
I'll give an update once I use a Quickutz die in it.

I read on directdies.com (they used to make the quickutz dies) that the epic has plastic gears in it.
I think big shot does too, because I had a customer break hers. It was relatively new, so I was able to get her a replacement.
My die cutting tool of choice is the wizard or my accucut machine, it's heavy duty! I have heard good things about the creatopia as well.
